1.) I'm so glad I'm not single.
2.) I am soooooo lucky to have the husband I have.
3.) Marriage will not be successful unless both people commit to working hard to make it work.
4.) Having a tire blow out at 85 mph is SCARY.
5.) Southern Comfort and Lime Juice = YUMMY SHOTS (I was shocked, because it sounds really disgusting!).
6.) Always ask if the room has air conditioning before throwing down your cc for a night's stay at a cute bed and breakfast.
7.) I need a camera and a laptop.
8.) Having a best friend that accepts your 1 am drunk dials is priceless.
9.) Moving to Northern California was one of the most difficult, but best decisions I have ever made and I will never ever regret doing it.
10.) It's important to have friends with varying interests and views, but it's also important to surround yourself with people who have values that you admire.

Girlfriends and Cocktails
Those are two of my favorite things.
I'm so thankful to be surrounded by so many smart, beautiful, hilarious, wine and martini loving ladies! I'd be lost (and severely depressed) without you!

Summer
Our summer has been filled with weekend trips! It's been really nice to get away a lot, but I feel like I've missed out on so many things at home! I've missed my friends, my lounge chair by the pool, cleaning my house (can you believe I actually MISS cleaning my house???)... all of the little things that people do on weekends! I just took a look at my calendar to make sure my count was correct - in eight weekends, we have only been home two! And one of those weekends I was SICK! Yuck!
We have had a lot of fun though! We took Reggie on his first camping trip and he experienced his first canoe ride! He had way more fun that I did in that canoe! We have spent tons of time in Tahoe with family and friends and we did another camping trip last weekend to Lake Don Pedro (if you're considering going there call me first... seriously). I'm heading out to San Luis Obispo this weekend, then back up to Tahoe the following weekend for Labor Day.
My goodness! It makes sense that I'm exhausted, right???? I think I'm ready for fall!

Another Dog
I want another dog, but the idea of having four more paws running around the house scares me a little bit. Reggie seems so much happier when he has a pal to goof around with and I've heard that having two isn't much more difficult (if at all) than having one.... we don't have any vacations planned anytime soon. I wonder if now would be a good time to start trying to convince Matt that it's a good idea. Hmmmmm..... I don't know if he'll go for it.

Wicked :)
Matt surprised me at Christmas with tickets to see Wicked. I was soooo excited!!!!!!! I had taken them off of my Christmas list because I really didn't think I'd get them and didn't want to be disappointed... little did I know he had already planned on taking me. What a champ!
The tickets were for the performance on February 27, which at the time seemed like a million years away... I didn't think it would ever come and then "POOF!", it's already past. It still scares me how quickly time flies.
Here's my review of the evening:
We went to First Crush for dinner. We were thirty minutes late for dinner, but luckily they were able to get us in and out of there in time when we told them we had Wicked tickets. The service was really good there and the wine flights... o.m.g. SO good! I had the Zin flight and loved, loved, loved all of them except one. Matt had the bold reds flight. Yum. Unfortunately, the great service and yummy wine didn't make up for the lack of taste and creativity of the food. Kind of a bummer. We had heard really good things about the place, so maybe this was just an off night for them. :(
We wrapped up with dinner and rushed to the show! We made it in time to find our seats, sit down, look at the program for a moment and then it was lights out.
We went to see Phantom with a group of friends recently and I realized then (although I really already KNEW, but it really sunk in that night) that Matt is not at all a good sport about theater productions/musicals. He slept through parts of Phantom. It bums me out because I find myself being completely distracted by the fact that he isn't enjoying himself that it takes away from ME enjoying the evening!! I had kind of teased him and told him that I have been waiting and waiting to see Wicked and I really wanted him to put his game face on through the performance, even if he doesn't like it so I could enjoy it.
He's a total trooper. He sat through the whole thing w/o a single complaint. He waited until we left the theater to tell me that it was his last time going. HA!!! I'm OK w/ that though and I totally appreciate the fact that he tried TWICE to enjoy something that I enjoy for the sake of making me happy. From now on, it's GIRLS NIGHT when I want to see a play, musical, etc.!
So... what did I think of Wicked???? I absolutely LOVED it!!!!!!! I was expecting it to be fabulous and I was not disappointed!! I laughed and I cried; it is a beautiful story of friendship and love, politics, injustice, etc. I highly recommend it to anyone who is thinking about going!

FINALLY!
I am finally feeling like my good old self again. I was sick on and off for a few weeks and was starting to get depressed because all I had the energy to do was drain myself at work, then come home and crash out. I hadn't seen friends, I felt totally disconnected from everyone and my house was an absolute pig sty!!!!! This weekend I was able to relax with Matt, go to an amazing baby shower, clean my house, spend time with friends and even excersize!!
I'm feeling refreshed and energized! I'm excited!

I believe the children are our future....
... teach them well and let them lead the waaaaaaaaaaaaay......
Yeah... Whitney Houston turned out to be a junkie, so I guess this theory was thrown out with the trash.
True Story:
I was driving down the road on Saturday and I stopped at a red light. I was the first in line to go. I honestly wasn't paying attention, I think I was checking out my make up in the mirror or something irritating like that. Suddenly, I hear a loud and long "HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONK". I looked up and the light was green, but it couldn't have been green very long because the guy that was first in line next to me was JUST starting to go and the people behind him weren't honking yet. I take my foot off the brake, and start to accelerate, meanwhile the A-Hole behind me is STILL honking. So, I drive totally slow (and I flip him off. Hey, I'm from SoCal, what do you expect?).
I'm driving slow just to piss this guy off at this point (seriously, appx. 10 mph in a 45), know ing that he'll swoop around me, but laughing because I have officially ruined his Saturday by taking 12 seconds from his day. I can see him behind me SCREAMING, flailing his arms all around... he swoops around me and pulls up next to me yelling, screaming, still flailing his arms... spit is coming out of his mouth. I'm thinking "Wow, you are really worked up about this", but at the same time I'm kind of getting nervous because this guy is obviously a crazy m-f-er. Then I notice that he isn't in the car alone. There is a girl (maybe late teens, early twenties) in the passenger seat, with her head down and her hands covering her face. Poor thing. I felt bad for her, I'd be embarassed if my dad/boyfriend/husband, whatever the hell this psycho dude was, acted like a nut job like that.
Here comes the best part - as he was accelerating past me, I see that he has TWO KIDS in the back seat. One of them was about six or seven and was looking the other way, but the one in the CAR SEAT was FLIPPING ME OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
W.T.F???????????????????????
Nice parenting skills you asshole.

2009 - I thought you'd be better than 2008
January is almost over and this is my first blog of the year.
2009 is here and I must say, I thought it would be BETTER!!! Yes, I was expecting everything to all of a sudden change from crappy to wonderful like a flip of a switch when the new year came. No such luck. Ha! I'm still holding on to hope though! I feel like the month FLEW by - between working non-stop, Matt working non-stop and us both being sick with icky colds... I don't think we've had a chance to really enjoy each other or life yet this year.
To add to God's cruel little jokes (I am saying this with a smile, I do trust him!!), here's what's been going on besides the chaos of two people struggling to make ends meet in a rotten economy while fighting off colds:
Granny:
2008
She's had a brain tumor for years. Sucks. She was diagnosed with blood cancer at the end of of the year. I won't ever ask "Can things get worse???" because I know, the obvious answer is "YES!"
2009
She's been in the hospital because she had a stroke (or a series of strokes), which impeded the operation of her legs and her speech. She's home now and recovering - thank goodness!!!!
Dad:
2008
He's had his muscular/neurological disease for years.. He has really bad heart problems. He was in the hospital at the end of 2008 for breathing related issues.
2009
Diagnosed with emphasema. He smoked when he was a teenager/young adult... seriously, he quit 37 years ago when my mom got pregnant w/ my brother. The docs are guessing that the emphasema stemmed from inhaling chemicals (aka asbestos?) over long periods of time. Frickin AWESOME.
I'm in a weird state right now where half of me wants to SCREAM and half of me wants to CRY. Life just isn't fair. I realize this and accept it, but I still want to kick and scream about it a little bit. I feel discouraged, unfocused and disconnected. I'm hoping that I will be able to settle down a bit, relax, enjoy the company of friends and get my life (aka messy house) back in order this weekend so I can start FRESH in February.
But, 2009 has also brought GOOD things along too!
My sister in law gave birth to a BEAUTIFUL baby girl on January 25!!!!!!!! My little niece (Miriana Marie) is gorgeous!!!!!!! Apparently, Mr. Matt has never been around a newborn before. He is absolutely, positively, 100% infatuated with this little girl and I love it!!!!
We booked a CRUISE!! WOOT WOOT!!! Our neighbors asked us to go on a cruise with them and we decided to do it! I am so excited!!! We desperately need a vacation and this one will be so much fun! I already have a sitter lined up for Reggie and everything!!! Now I have to go clothes shopping!!! Oh darn! hee hee!!!
So here's to hoping that the good starts to outweigh the bad as 2009 progresses. Cheers!
